Jack Russell Terrier

Jack Russell Terrier
The Jack Russell has existed for over 200 years. The name “Jack Russell’ is used to name a large group of small white terriers. Jack Russell’s are tough, sturdy, smart, fast, and tenacious. Jack Russell’s are very intelligent, athletic, fearless and vocal dogs. Jack Russell’s will bore easily quickly and when they are bored they tend to create their own fun when left alone. If JRT’s are not properly stimulated and exercised they tend to have a moody attitude and will become destructive. Owners should consider obedience classes for their JRT. JRT’s are stubborn dogs at times and can be very aggressive towards other animals and humans if they are not properly socialized. JRT’s are small dogs but on inside they are big dogs and that can cause trouble with lager animals. JRT’s should not be raised in apartments or condo’s unless the owner is prepared to take on the responsibility of providing the dog with the necessary amount of exercise and stimulation.
JRT’s will grow to be 10-15 inches in height and from 14- 18 pounds in weight.

A well known not to be forgotten JRT named George.
On the day of April 29, 2007, a JRT named George saved five children from being attacked by two pit bulls. It was reported the JRT charged at the two dogs and contained them long enough for the children to get away. The two pit bulls killed the JRT, and then in 2009 the JRT was awarded the PDSA Gold Medal.
